Safety and Comfort
Your pet's safety and comfort during surgery are our highest priority. Before surgery, your pet undergoes a complete physical examination performed by the veterinarian. If blood tests have not recently been performed on your pet, pre-anesthetic blood tests are strongly recommended. These tests are chosen based upon risk factors for your pet and the information is used to identify any pre-existing conditions that may complicate the use of anesthesia. Blood tests also help us develop an anesthetic protocol that is best suited for your pet. We use the latest anesthetic techniques to ensure your pet rests comfortably during surgery.
During anesthesia and surgery, your pet is constantly monitored by a trained veterinary technician as well as with an advanced electronic monitoring device. This devise monitors your pet's vital signs including blood pressure, CO2 levels, heart rate, body temperature. Extensive pain medications are used on a case-by-case basis.
Like us, your pet feels pain and discomfort. Recognizing and alleviating pain in your pet is the essence of good care. Your pet recovers faster if he or she is in less pain. We provide your pet with pain management medications after surgery. We may also give you pain medication to bring home, should your pet require it. Pain management is a top priority at Town & Country Veterinary Hospital.
If your pet must stay at the hospital following surgery, our special intensive care unit is available to keep your pet safe and comfortable.
Radiosurgery
In order to provide your pet with the best surgical care, Town & Country Veterinary Hospital has invested in a new radiosurgery unit. Radiosurgery uses radiowaves to make incisions and coagulate bleeding tissues. According to some researchers, radiosurgery is superior to laser surgery in minimizing tissue damage, alleviating pain, and controlling bleeding.
Radiosurgery has many applications in veterinary medicine, including skin incisions, tumor dissection, organ biopsy, gingivectomy and epilation. Veterinary radiosurgery is safe and highly effective.
